Matthew T. Nicols joined Secrest Wardle’s Troy location as a Partner in 2023 and was promoted to Executive Partner in 2026. He is chair of the Firm’s Appellate practice group as well as a member of the  Insurance Coverage, Motor Vehicle Litigation, and Premises Liability practice groups.

Matthew earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, and received his Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies & Social Inquiry from Arizona State University.

Mr. Nicols has experience representing a variety of individual, corporate, non-profit, municipal, public housing commissions, and community association clients in civil and business litigation, appellate, and transactional matters.

Mr. Nicols is licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan, and in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
