John H. Cowley, Jr. has over 42 years of experience in the insurance field. During his career, he has been employed by major carriers such as Aetna and Travelers in the capacity of Managing Attorney and Chief Liability Lawyer for their Michigan offices. He has successfully represented individual defendants, corporations and insurance carriers in personal injury, catastrophic no-fault and wrongful death cases. Additionally, his advocacy has resulted in a number of Supreme Court decisions which have made or changed the law in the State of Michigan such as DAIIE v. Home Insurance Company, 428 Mich 43 (1987) and Hartford v. The MCCA, 484 Mich 1 (2009). He has been recognized by his peers as an outstanding litigator by virtue of his “AV” rating by Martindale-Hubbell. He was an Executive Partner at Secrest Wardle and the Co-Chair of Firm’s Motor Vehicle Litigation Practice Group.

Additionally, Mr. Cowley was a frequent author of articles for Secrest Wardle’s Firm newsletters along with conducting numerous seminars and speaking on topics including: Traumatic Brain Injury, Michigan No-Fault, Techniques for Evaluating Personal Injury Claims and Preparing for Deposition.
