Samantha Orvis brings over a decade of litigation experience to the firm. Throughout her legal career Samantha has built a reputation for being fair, reasonable, and honest. She has represented individual and corporate clients in a variety of claims, including those involving automotive and trucking litigation, no-fault, premises liability, general negligence, and insurance coverage disputes. With that history, Samantha has recently expanded her practice to include alternative dispute resolution, building upon the tremendous trust she has garnered with not just her own clients, but with the bench and bar as well.

 

What sets Samantha apart from many mediators is that she has completed the 40-Hour General Civil Mediation Training, earning her the title of certified civil mediator. Samantha is one of only ten female attorneys on the court-approved roster of civil mediators in Genesee County, governed by MCR 2.411(E), and she serves as a case evaluator in both Genesee and Saginaw counties. Samantha also volunteers her time at the Community Resolution Center, providing pro bono mediation services for those in need.

 

Samantha is intimately familiar with Mid-Michigan venues, including Genesee, Lapeer, Shiawassee, Midland, Saginaw, and Bay counties (among others).

 

Samantha J. Orvis is an experienced litigator who joined Secrest Wardle’s Troy office as an Executive Partner in 2024. She is a member of the Firm’s Insurance Coverage, Motor Vehicle Litigation, Premises Liability, General Negligence, and Alternative Dispute Resolution practice groups.

 

Ms. Orvis’s practice includes representing individuals, companies, and insureds in litigation from file inception to trial in the areas of insurance defense and coverage litigation, including first and third party automobile claims, premises liability, general liability including dog bites, property damage, and subrogation. Some of her representative clients are national companies, including insurance companies, communication companies, retail stores, and freight carriers.

 

Ms. Orvis received her undergraduate degree from University of Michigan – Flint, where she graduated with High Honors. She received her Juris Doctor from the Wayne State University Law School, where she graduated cum laude. Ms. Orvis is licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan, the United States District Court, Eastern and Western Districts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

 

In addition to her legal practice, Samantha dedicates her time and service to the local bar and community. She is a member of the Michigan State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM), Centennial Inns of Court and serves as the Women Lawyers Delegate for the Genesee County Bar Association. Samantha also serves as a member of the Judicial Qualifications and Character and Fitness Committees for the State Bar of Michigan. Samantha commits time and service to the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and was a contributing author to Torts: Michigan Law and Practice, Third Edition.

 

Outside of the office Samantha serves as a mentor to law students, as well as both an attorney coach and volunteer judge for numerous mock trial and trial advocacy programs. She has been named to the class of Super Lawyers Rising Stars in years 2016-2021 and was named as a 2023 SuperLawyer. She was a 2021 Honoree of Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s Women in the Law. Samantha was awarded the Young Lawyer Golden Gavel Award by Michigan Defense Trial Counsel in 2019 and was included in Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s class of Up & Coming Lawyers in 2014.
