Robert J. Penrod has provided legal expertise in representing a variety of commercial clients involving commercial disputes. Mr. Penrod has successfully litigated commercial matters including, but not limited to, claims for breach of contract, breach of non-compete agreements, breach of non-solicitation agreements, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duties, tortious interference with business expectancy and tortious interference with contractual relationship. In addition to litigating commercial disputes, Mr. Penrod routinely assists his commercial clients in developing various contracts to help protect their business interests including non-disclosure, non-solicitation and non-compete agreements.

 

Mr. Penrod joined Secrest Wardle in 2019. He practices out of the Firm’s Troy office and is a member of the Commercial and Business Law, Construction, Environmental and Toxic Tort, Governmental Litigation, Intellectual Property/Advertising Injury, Motor Vehicle Litigation and Trucking/Commercial Vehicle Litigation Practice Groups. Mr. Penrod has additional experience handling insurance defense, employment and municipal matters.

 

Mr. Penrod earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. During law school, he received the Virginia Leo Sirotnak Scholarship, two Book Awards in Local Government Law and Entertainment Law and was named to the Dean’s List. Mr. Penrod received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science with a Minor in International Relations from Grand Valley State University. As an undergraduate student, he was a member of the Grand Valley Men’s D2 Ice Hockey team that claimed the ACHA National Championship in 2011.
