Commercial Use vs Personal Use Has No Bearing on Barnes

However, it confirms the Court’s position that owners and registrants of motor vehicles that fail to personally maintain insurance coverage for the subject vehicle are not entitled to recover PIP benefits. Barnes v Farmers Ins Exch, 308 Mich App 1; 862 NW2d 681 (2014) continues to be the controlling authority when the claimant is an owner of the motor vehicle involved in the accident and the vehicle is insured by a non-owner.
