Elizabeth M. Malone joined Secrest Wardle’s Troy office as a Partner in 2018 with over 34 years of experience successfully advising and defending individual and corporate clients in the areas of employment, commercial and business law, and personal injury. Ms. Malone has also handled defense litigation in the areas of school law, nursing home law, general negligence, first and third-party automobile negligence, premises liability, and property loss. In addition to the Commercial and Business Law Practice Group, she is also a member of the Firm’s Employment Practice Group.

Ms. Malone’s commercial and business law experience includes successfully representing large and small business clients in contract disputes and claims under the Uniform Commercial Code in both state and federal courts. She has defended several large industrial clients in commercial and multi-party complex personal injury litigation. She has also litigated non-compete and non-solicitation issues for individual and corporate clients in a wide range of industries.

Ms. Malone earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1983 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Michigan State University in 1980. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Malone is also an active member of the Oakland County Bar Association.

In addition to the Employment Practice Group, she is also a member of the Firm’s Commercial and Business Law Practice Group.

Ms. Malone has represented individuals and employers in a variety of state and federal court matters including discrimination, sexual harassment, and wrongful discharge. She has been involved in the review, negotiation, and drafting of employment contracts, severance agreements, and the development of personnel policies and procedures on a variety of human resource issues. Ms. Malone has represented clients in matters before the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. She has also represented a government employer in labor contract interpretation disputes and discharge labor arbitration. Additionally, Ms. Malone has defended business clients in proceedings before OSHA/MIOSHA.
