Open Carry Limitations: Local Government May Enforce Private Entertainment Facilities’ Ban on Firearms

In Michigan Open Carry, Inc., and Gun Owners, Inc., v Convention Arena Authority et al, the Court of Appeals examined whether a local government authority can uphold and enforce the rights of private entertainment venues’ preclusion of weapons on the premises. In this unpublished opinion, the Court of Appeals ruled that a private entertainment facility may ban firearms on the premises. In addition, a local government authority may enforce the rights of these private entities to exclude weapons on the premises.
