The Michigan No-Fault Act requires an owner of a vehicle to insure his or her own motor vehicle. This responsibility may not be delegated to non-owners.

An owner operating his or her own motor vehicle at the time of an accident may be barred from receiving no-fault benefits and non-economic benefits if no owner insures the vehicle.
