“Not So Fast” – Qualified Self-Insured Owners of Vehicles Registered Out of State Can Be Liable to Pay Michigan PIP Benefits

Under this holding, as relates to qualified self-insurers under the Michigan No-Fault Act, the Michigan no-fault priority statute MCL 500.3114(4)(a) “refers to that self-insurer as the insurer of the motor vehicle’s ‘owner or registrant,’ regardless of whether the particular vehicle involved in an accident was required to be covered by [Michigan] no-fault security . . . .”
